Valentines, Podcast, Pittsburgh!
Lori's Blog By lori on 2/18/2008 10:04 AM

Hello all you fans of Down Gilead Lane! It's nice to see you all! :)

As you  may know, a lot of new things have been happening with DGL. We got our recording system up and running (as evidenced in some part by the Valentine's Special hitting the airwaves!) and we're hard at work on Season 10 right now. I'll get to more of that in a few minutes!

Steve and I did record a quick podcast last week and I think his goal is to have it up this week sometime. We did  a little review of the Valentine's Special and teased some great things that we have coming up - so keep your eyes open for that to hit the Internet sometime within the next day or two.

Our whole team has been working really hard on season 10 lately. With our recording issues and the problems there, we've had to work and push hard to get things moving, but the writing has been steadily pushing forward. About a week ago, I finished two episodes that I'm really excited abo ...

Prayers being answered!!
Steve's DGL Blog Production By stevo on 2/1/2008 1:13 PM

We finally got pictures back from UPS of our server.  This one is of the front cover and shows the most damage, although there are others that show some of the damage inside.  Anyway, progress is being made (very slowly) on getting a settlement from UPS to pay for the new server.  In the meantime, thanks to God and many of our listeners making some very generous year-end gifts, we were able to go ahead and order the new server from Fairlight, so that they could get started on putting it together.  That turned out to be a wise decision on the part of Mrs. Ritchie, because if we had to wait until UPS pays up, it might not be until we're going into season 27!!!  Seriously, we should have the new server in place by the middle of next week (PTL!!).

Now, wi ...

More Prayer, Please!
Steve's DGL Blog Production By stevo on 1/7/2008 12:33 PM

Hey everybody.  Long time, it seems, since I posted an entry here.  Well, I guess the holidays can have a tendency to create a lot of busyness.  Actually, I don't feel like we were especially busy this year, just more comitted than ever before NOT to take myself away from the family in order to do work.

So, now we're back into the swing of things and need to ask you to pray for our equipment issues again.  Some of you may remember how towards the end of season 9 we were experiencing trouble with the digital editing and post-production system: Fairlight.  Well, thankfully, we were able to hobble to the end of the season and through the 2 holiday specials we had planned for the end of the year, and ordered new parts and software to get the system back up and running.  In ...

Merry Christmas all you DGL'ers!!!
Lori's Blog By lori on 12/26/2007 11:47 AM

I hope that all the fans of DGL far and wide around the world had a wonderful blessed Christmas day and that a Happy New Year is just around the corner!

As many of you noticed, "Putting the Hope Back in Christmas" has aired now and answered many burning questions. (Smell the smoke in the air?!) Sugar cookies were the winners on the poll and of course the beloved winter staple, COCOA won out as well!

We also had the premiere of our new actor who is playing Justin Morrison. Steve will be able to tell you more about him (and some very cool facts) in the future and I think we're also going to be featuring him on a podcast coming up soon, so keep your ears open on that.

Now for another burning question that I just must answer - the translation of the BIble used for the verses in the special. If, indeed Dave (from the messageboards) is correct and it was New Living Translation, then it was an error on my part. I go to Biblegatewa ...

New holiday specials underway!!
Steve's DGL Blog Production By stevo on 11/13/2007 10:11 AM

Oh, the Joy...

So, our audio editing system (Fairlight) has been a real stable, rock-solid platform for producing Gilead almost since the beginning of the series back in 2001.  But (as computer systems go), she's getting kinda old, and this season has been riddled with crashes and system failures such as we have never seen since we began.  Our plan was to try to limp along through Season 9 until we had a little down time to address the problems and get some much needed upgrades.  But, oh yeah, we're producing 2 holiday specials this year...

No problem, what harm could come from trying to do just 2 more shows?  Well, because of having to nurse Fairlight so much, we've been seriously delayed ...

No Shakespeare Here!
Steve's DGL Blog Random Thoughts By stevo on 10/30/2007 3:20 PM

To post or not to post

So, we finally did it!  We've been developing this blog for a while now, but because of one thing or another (technical glitches, production schedule, Lori's health), we haven't been able to actually announce it... Until today.

And I'm really excited about having this new peice to the Gilead puzzle to offer to fans, but now I'm VERY aware that people are actually going to SEE what I write!!  And wow, writing really isn't my strong suit!  I mean, Lori doesn't have anything to worry about--she kinda does this for a living.  But I, on the other hand... Well, let's just say you're going to have to put up with my random ramblings, and I'm going to have to come to terms with the fact that it's not just prac ...

Please pray
Steve's DGL Blog Production By stevo on 10/3/2007 8:39 PM

Well, it seems at the end of every season it gets pretty tight, so I shouldn't be surprised... right?

But I think we went into this season already behind--with the comittment to not split the season into two parts like we've had to do in almost every previous season.  Then in August, I got the "go ahead"  to hire Cal to help out part time with post production--what a relief that was!

UNTIL

We started having equipment problems in totally unrelated componets that put the porduction process into a near stand-still.  Over the course of about 3 weeks, we were very "stop & go" which seriously set us back.  Three weeks may not seem like much, but when you're already right on your deadlines (or a week late), that much time really puts a squeeze on ya.

So here we are in the middle of post production on episodes 10 and 11, the first of which wi ...
